Union Pacific Carman Sues Over Work-Related Injuries

A carman for Union Pacific recently filed a FELA lawsuit against the railroad company, claiming he suffered injuries to his arms, knees and back as a result of unsafe working conditions, among other things.
Dennis Colwell alleges that he injured his back while installing a knuckle coupler in May 2004. According to his complaint, Union Pacific failed to provide him with sufficient help and equipment.
As a result of his injuries, Colwell claims he had surgery on his lower back-costing him medical expenses, lost wages and ability to labor, and loss of enjoyment of life.
The lawsuit also claims that Colwell was required to use vibrating tools and equipment for extended periods and kneel, crawl and squat on hazardous surfaces, causing him to suffer both carpal and cubital tunnel injuries as well as knee problems.
Colwell is seeking damages in excess of $150,000 for his injuries and suffering.
