BNSF Conductor and Engineer Die in Train Accident

A BNSF conductor and an engineer were killed in a train accident, April 17. Conductor Patricia Hyatt (48) and engineer Tom Anderson (48) both died in the crash.

According to a BNSF spokesperson, the train accident occurred when a freight train traveling east crashed into the rear of another BNSF train. The eastbound freight train was pulling 130 loaded coal hoppers and the other train was pulling 34 cars of maintenance equipment, according to reports.

According to reports, when the trains collided, ten of the cars in the lead train, two of the locomotives of the coal train and the two locomotives of the coal train derailed.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the FRA and National Transportation Safety Board.
